You have found the ring you love, and there is just one question left: what is my size? The good news is that you can find out at home in a few minutes, with a ruler and a strip of paper or even your phone. This guide walks you through three easy methods, gives you the size chart, and shares tips so you can order with confidence.
In short: Measure the inner diameter of a ring that fits you, or the circumference of your finger with a paper strip, in millimeters. Then compare the number with the size chart. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one.
◆ Before you measure: three important notes
- Timing: measure at the end of the day, when fingers are slightly larger than in the morning.
- Temperature: avoid measuring after cold water or in very hot weather, as fingers shrink or swell.
- The right finger: your ring finger is a different size from your middle finger, and your right hand may differ from your left. Measure the finger you will wear the ring on.
◆ Method 1: using a ring you own (the most accurate)
If you have a ring that fits the same finger comfortably, this is the most accurate method:
- Place the ring on a ruler with millimeter markings.
- Measure the inside distance from edge to edge, straight across the center of the circle.
- Do not include the thickness of the band. Measure the inner opening only.
- Compare the number with the inner diameter column in the chart below.
AZIN tip: Use a thin ring for measuring if you can, because wide rings feel tighter on the finger even with the same diameter.

◆ Method 2: with a paper strip or string
No ring to measure? No problem:
- Cut a thin strip of paper, about half a centimeter wide.
- Wrap it around the base of your finger without pulling it tight.
- Mark with a pen where the two ends meet.
- Lay the strip flat and measure its length in millimeters with a ruler. That is your finger circumference.
- Make sure the strip can slide over your knuckle, because the ring has to pass over it.
Note: String stretches easily and gives an inaccurate reading, which is why a paper strip works better. Measure two or three times to be sure.
◆ Method 3: with your phone
There are apps and websites that measure ring size on your phone, and they usually work in one of two ways: you place your ring on the screen and enlarge a circle until it matches the inner edge, or you place your finger between two lines and bring them together.
It is a quick method, but its accuracy depends on the screen size and settings. Our advice: use it as a starting point, and confirm the number with a ruler using Method 1 or 2.
◆ Ring size chart
This is the same chart used in the AZIN size guide. All measurements are in millimeters:
| US size | Inner diameter | Finger circumference |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 15.7 mm | 49.3 mm |
| 6 | 16.5 mm | 51.9 mm |
| 7 | 17.3 mm | 54.4 mm |
| 8 | 18.1 mm | 57.0 mm |
| 9 | 18.9 mm | 59.5 mm |
| 10 | 19.8 mm | 62.1 mm |
| 11 | 20.6 mm | 64.6 mm |
| 12 | 21.4 mm | 67.2 mm |

◆ My size is 16 or 17. What does that convert to?
Many people know their size as a number from a jewelry shop, such as 14, 16 or 18, and are not sure how to convert it. That is because there are several ring sizing systems around the world, and the same number means a different size in each one.
In some systems, such as the Swiss one, the number equals the finger circumference in millimeters minus 40. So a size 14 is about 54 mm around, which is close to a US size 7. But the reliable way is to ask for the circumference or diameter in millimeters and compare it with the chart above.

◆ If you are between two sizes
- Choose the larger size, especially if your knuckles are wide.
- For wide rings and thick bands, go up slightly.
- For very thin rings, your usual size is generally fine.
- If you will stack the ring with another one, try measuring with both rings together.
◆ Open, adjustable rings
Some rings are open on one side and can be widened or tightened slightly with gentle pressure. They are handy if you are between sizes or buying a gift for someone whose size you do not know. But do not open and close them repeatedly, because bending the metal again and again weakens it over time. Adjust it once to your size and leave it.
◆ How to find someone else's size for a gift
Want to surprise someone with a ring? These ideas help without spoiling the surprise:
- Borrow a ring they wear on the same finger, measure its inner diameter, then put it back.
- Ask someone close to them who knows their size.
- If you cannot find out, choose a gift that does not need a size, such as earrings or necklaces.
And in case the size is not right, check the exchange and return policy before you order.
◆ Sizing for bands and men's rings
Men's fingers are usually wider, and men's bands are usually wider than women's, so the ring feels tighter. The same measuring method works; just pick the larger size if you land between two. Browse men's bands and women's bands.
◆ How do you know the size is right?
Once your ring arrives, try this simple check:
- The right fit: slides over the knuckle with slight pressure and stays in place without spinning much.
- Too loose: turns easily on the finger, or slips off when you wash or shake your hands.
- Too tight: leaves a clear mark on the skin, feels like pressure after a few minutes, or is hard to take off.
AZIN tip: Try the ring at different times of day before deciding, because fingers swell and shrink slightly with heat and activity.
◆ Does finger size change over time?
Yes, quite naturally. Weight changes, pregnancy, hot or cold weather, and even how much salt you eat can all affect finger size. So if you last measured years ago, it is best to measure again before ordering.
And if you are buying a band or ring to wear every day for a long time, comfort matters more than a very snug fit. The right size is the one you forget you are wearing.
◆ Ring size FAQs
How can I find my ring size without a ruler?
You can use a ring sizing app on your phone as a starting point, but measuring with a millimeter ruler, or asking someone to help, is more accurate.
What is the most common women's ring size?
It varies from person to person, so we do not recommend guessing. Two minutes of measuring saves you an exchange.
Is my right hand the same size as my left?
Not always. Fingers on your dominant hand may be slightly wider, so measure the exact finger you will wear the ring on.
I am still not sure. What should I do?
Send us your measurement in millimeters through the Contact us page, and the AZIN team will help you pick the closest size.
